Despite the suspension of the sit-at-home order every Monday in the South East, residents are afraid to leave their homes.   Today, August 30, many streets in major areas in the South East remain deserted. Also, there have been reports of masquerades parading the streets to deter people from going about their businesses. They have reportedly threatened that anyone caught going out will be flogged.     The sit-at-home order was declared to protest the arrest of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. It was later suspended but residents say this is only in words as people fear they will be attacked if they open their shops or offices.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the acquisition of 20 per cent minority stakes ($2.76 billion) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the Dangote Petroleum and Petro-Chemical Refinery. Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, briefed journalists after the virtual FEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa. The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Sunday, sounded a note of warning that “nothing must happen to DCP Abba Kyari”. AYCF issued the warning while berating the United States, US, court that ordered the arrest of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari. AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima also dismissed what it described as “the attempted intimidation of a police officer right inside his independent fatherland”. Nigerian athlete, Blessing Okagbare, has been provisionally suspended after failing a drug test at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Friday July 30. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the independent body created by the World Athletics that manages all integrity issues for the sport, announced the decision. According to the body, Okagbare tested positive for Human Growth Hormone.   “Growth Hormone is a non-specified substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List and a provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. A 9-year-old girl has been identified as the person seen in CCTV footage setting Ebeano supermarket on fire.   Earlier today, July 26, footage of a girl starting a fire in the gas cylinder section of Ebeano supermarket emerged.   Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja has adjourned the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to October 21, following the failure of the Department of State Security DSS to produce him in court today July 26.   When the matter was called up, Justice Binta Nyako said nothing could be done since the defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, wasn't produced in court by the DSS. According to the prosecution counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, Kanu was not in court due to logistic reasons. Justice Nyako then ordered the DSS to allow Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor access to his client and she also promised to work with lawyers to the prosecution and defence and head of the security team to work out a plan to allow Ejiofor access to his client who he, claims he hasn't seen in eight days.   Justice Nyako then adjourned the case till October 21 but said the date could be brought back if the prosecution was able to obtain a fiat from the court’s Chief Judge t

Banks, shops, and industries in Onitsha and Nnewi stayed shut today, July 26, as the trial of Nnamdi Kanu resumes at the Federal High Court Abuja.   According to reports from the state, youths suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) allegedly blocked the entrance and exits from Onitsha including the Onitsha head bridge and the industrial town of Nnewi.   The roads leading to major markets in Onitsha were also allegedly occupied by IPOB members to ensure that residents stay at home in solidarity with the IPOB leader, who is being arraigned in Abuja today.   Banks also had to stay shut for fear of chaos.   Drivers seen trying to enter Onitsha were allegedly ordered to return to their destination.   Youth suspected to be IPOB members also lit bonfires in the streets as they ensured compliance to the sit-at-home order.  

  Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a fake Naval officer, fraudster and notorious criminal, Nasiru Ahmed.    Spokesperson of the command, ASP Ramhan Nansel, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, July 25, said the suspect have been defrauding, harrassing and assaulting POS operators in Karu Local Government Area of the state.    "In continuation of the onslaught against criminals in Nasarawa State, on 24/7/2021 at about 1330hrs, Police personnel attached to New Karu Division while on intensive surveillance patrol, arrested one Nasiru Ahmed 'M' 32 years of age, an impostor, notorious criminal and serial fraudster," Nansel stated.   "The suspect usually dresses in full military camouflage uniform of the Nigeria Navy then, approaches Point Of Sale (P.O.S) operators at different locations within Karu LGA, Nasarawa State under the guise of conducting transactions and send in fake bank alerts into their mobile phones in lieu of cash.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, is set to join Turkish Super Lig club Fatih Karagumruk in the coming hours, according to Fanatik.
