John Terry and Tammy Abraham react as Chelsea player confirms departure
The Chelsea family officially bid farewell to Willy Caballero yesterday after he left a parting message on his Instagram.
Caballero posted an emotional goodbye late last night, thanking the club for nearly half a decade of fond memories.
A rush of heartfelt responses was sent his way, including from John Terry and Tammy Abraham, amongst others.
It was confirmed last month that the goalkeeper had been included in the Blues release list, one of seven to be leaving Stamford Bridge.
He joined Chelsea in 2017 from Manchester City on a free transfer.
His debut season mainly consisted of sitting on the bench.
Although, he was the main ‘keeper throughout the FA Cup run, right up until the final, where Thibaut Courtois got the nod.
Courtois was then replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga, which resigned Caballero back to understudy.
However, Frank Lampard had a change of heart and briefly promoted the Argentine to no.1 last season, following Arrizabalaga’s inconsistent form.
This time, the 39-year-old did start the FA Cup final, plus both legs of the Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.
Edouard Mendy’s arrival in the previous summer meant Caballero played just twice throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
Despite his minimal game time, he was clearly a very well valued member of the squad and a good personality to have in the dressing room.
Best of luck in your next adventure, Willy!
